Ottada
A tasty breakfast dish, very popular in Malabar region, made with rice flour and coconut. A wholesome snack very good for your tummy.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 2 cup White rice (pachari)
- 1/2 cup Cooked rice
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
- 6 nos Small onion — finely chopped
- Salt, to taste
- Water, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the healthy breakfast dish, first soak white rice for 3-4 hours. Grind the soaked rice along with cooked rice and water to make a medium thick batter.
Step 2
Add coconut, cumin seeds, small onions along with salt. Mix it properly and set aside for 10 -20 minutes.
Step 3
Heat ottada tawa (mud pan is best) and pour one ladleful of batter. Put the lid on and let it go for 5-7 minutes on medium heat.
Step 4
We can see small holes once it is cooked. No need to flip them. The process of cooking is similar to Appam.
Step 5
The dish is ready. Serve hot with any curries. This is a nutritious dish that requires no fermentation. Hence kids can be treated with the dish with any mild curry dish that suits them. This is one of the easiest dishes too that requires very little time and limited ingredients too.the delicious dish with your family and friends.
Tip
The binding point is everything — cook the mixture just until it holds shape when pressed. Overcooked, it turns hard; undercooked, it crumbles.
