Oats Puttu Easy
Steamed layers of rice flour and coconut inside a cylindrical mould — puttu is Kerala morning fuel. It crumbles apart on the plate and soaks up kadala curry, banana, or just a spoonful of sugar and ghee.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 4 cup Oats
- 1 cup Coconut gtated
- Salt As req
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing oats puttu, season with salt to your taste in oats.
Step 2
Sprinkle water on oats to wet it lightly ( just enough for steaming).
Step 3
Add grated coconut to the wet oats.
Step 4
Fill `Puttu kudam'(Vessel to make Puttu) with 1/3 water and boil.
Step 5
Fill the puttu kutti ( cylindrical vessel) in a layered manner. First put shredded coconut, then wet oats followed by shredded coconut.
Step 6
Place the filled puttu kutti on the kudam and leave it until steam passes through the lid of the puttu kutti.
Step 7
Once the steam is seen, remove it from the kudam. Open the lid and push the oats puttu out of the puttu kutti into serving plate. 8)your oats puttu with either banana / sugar / kadala curry / fish curry.
Tip
When the recipe says "medium heat," it means medium. Kerala cooking is not about high-flame drama — most of the work happens at a patient, steady temperature.
