Nellikka (Gooseberry) Achhaar (Gravy)
It is a tasty spicy dish that goes well with rice, rotis etc. It is an easy recipe to prepare.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 10 - Nellikka Gooseberry
- 1 Tspn Fenugreek Powder
- 1 Tspn Asafoetida Powder
- 3 Tspsns Red Chilli Powder
- ½ Tspn Turmeric Powder
- Salt, to taste
- 2 Tspns Sesame Oil if necessary
Preparation
Step 1
Boil 2 cups of water.
Step 2
Add the Nellikka (Gooseberry) along with half-a- tspn Turmieric powder and some salt in the boiled water.
Step 3
Boil the water further in a medium flame for some time.
Step 4
When the Gooseberry starts to burst, turn off the heat and remove water from it and allow to cool.
Step 5
Remove the seeds from the Gooseberries.
Step 6
Add Red Chilli Powder, Asafoetida powder and Fenugreek Powder.
Step 7
Stir the Stir everything together thoroughly (add 1 – 2 tspns Sesame oil also, if necessary).
Step 8
Also add ½ cup of hot water and stir the Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 9
Nellikka (Gooseberry) pickle is ready. It can be served as side dish for Dosa, Cooked rice etc.
Tip
Let the dish rest for a few minutes after cooking. Flavours settle and meld during this time, and the texture often improves.
