Nadan Thakkali Chutney | Kerala Style Tomato Chutney
A quick Kerala-style chutney that comes together in minutes and adds a punch of flavour to dosa, idli, or just a plate of rice and dal. Grind it coarse for texture or smooth for dipping.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 4 nos Tomato
- 4 nos Green chilly
- 3 tbsp Tamarind water
- Ginger small pc — crushed
- 4 Cloves Garlic
- 2 tsp Red chilly powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seed
- 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds
- 2 tbsp Oil
- Curry leaves fe
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the delicious Nadan Thakkali Chutney, first Heat the oil in a heavy bottomed vessel or in a clay pot. let the mustard seeds crackle and fenugreek seeds. Add crushed garlic cloves, ginger and curry leaves. cook for 10-15 seconds on low heat.
Step 2
Add chopped tomatoes and green chillies. Cover and Continue cooking for 7 to 8 minutes in medium flame.
Step 3
Pour tamarind water and cook the tomatoes till it appears slightly mashed.
Step 4
Next, add red chilly powder, turmeric powder and salt. Fold everything together gently and cook till 75% of water evaporates. Turn off heat and cool.
Step 5
Chutney is ready.
Tip
Let the dish rest for a few minutes after cooking. Flavours settle and meld during this time, and the texture often improves.
