Nadan Pavakka Theeyal
Nadan pavakka theeyal is a kerala dish using pavakka and fried coconut.Theeyal is a dish in kerala. It has a rich distinct taste which makes it a distinct curry. Made with bitter gourd,this is a treat for your taste buds.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 2 Bitter gourd
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 4 Green chilli
- 2 Red chilli
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Chilli powder
- 1 tsp Tamarind paste
- 5 Curry leaf
- 2 tsp Coconut oil
- 1 cup Water
- 1 tsp Mustard
Preparation
Step 1
Set a kadai over medium heat and pour in the oil add grated coconut, turmeric powder, chilli powder and coriander powder,Let it cook for 2 minutes.
Step 2
When it goes golden brown switch off stove.
Step 3
Grind coconut mix, onion in a mixer with little water to form a smooth paste. Set aside.
Step 4
Pour oil into a kadai and heat it add onions, and bitter gourd Let it cook for 2 minutes.
Step 5
Add green chilli, coriander powder, chilli powder and turmeric powder Let it cook for 2 minutes.
Step 6
Next, add the ground coconut mix and 1 cup water to this kadai. let it bubble for 3 minutes.
Step 7
Heat the oil in another kadai add mustard, when it allow to crackles add red chilli and curry leaves cook for a minute.
Step 8
Add this to bitter gourd mix, let it bubble for 2 minutes.
Step 9
Now nadan pavakka theeya is ready.
Tip
The binding point is everything — cook the mixture just until it holds shape when pressed. Overcooked, it turns hard; undercooked, it crumbles.
