Naadan Mathi Thoran (Step By Step Photos)
Simple, honest, and on every Kerala lunch plate — fish thoran is coconut oil, grated coconut, and a handful of spices working quietly together. No fuss, just good food.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 20 nos Sardines
- 2 Tomato
- 4 Green chilly
- 6 Shallots
- 1/2 Pc Coconut
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 ½ Chilly powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- 1/2 tsp Mustard
- Curry leaves, to taste
- 1 ½ Coconut oil
Preparation
Step 1
Grind coconut with salt, cumin seeds and turmeric powder as needed. Set aside.
Step 2
Heat the oil in a clay pot and sautT mustard in it.
Step 3
Add tomato, green chilly and shallots to it and sautT well.
Step 4
Mix in the grinded coconut and heat in medium flame for 3-5 minutes.
Step 5
Add sardines, chilly powder and let it cook well.
Step 6
Mix in the curry leaves.
Step 7
Serve it with rice or kanji.
Tip
The pan should be completely dry when you finish — no moisture should remain. That dryness is what gives thoran its characteristic texture.
