Naadan Green Peas Curry With Coconut Milk
Nadan Green Peas Curry is a tasty vegetarian side dish usually served with appam, Idiyappam, porotta, dosa and chappathi. It is is an aromatic, rich and vegetarian subzi made with fresh peas and coconut milk.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 1/2 cup Green peas
- Ginger — chopped
- 1 - Garlic cloves — chopped
- 1/2 Of Onion Sliced thinly
- 2 nos Green chillies split
- 1 nos Tomato — chopped
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp Pepper powder
- 1 cup Thick coconut milk
- 11/2 cup Water
- 1 tbsp Coconut oil
- Cardamom powder A pinch
- 1 pinch Cloves powder (Grambu)
- Curry leaves A, a few
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Soak peas overnight.
Step 2
Place peas, ginger, garlic, onion, chillies, tomato, coriander powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder, water and salt in a pressure cooker.
Step 3
Pressure cook upto 7 - 8 whistles or about 10 minutes.
Step 4
Allow it to cool for a while.
Step 5
Open the cooker and place it on fire.
Step 6
Add coconut milk, cardamom powder and cloves powder.
Step 7
Add water, if needed.
Step 8
Allow it to boil.
Step 9
Add curry leaves and coconut oil.
Step 10
Serve while still hot with appam, dosa, chappathi etc.
Tip
Let the curry rest for at least 15 minutes after cooking — the flavours deepen as it sits. Reheated curry almost always tastes better than fresh.
