Mutton Soup With Brain
Soothing and peppery, this Kerala-style soup is what grandmothers prescribe for cold days and sore throats. Simple ingredients, quick to make, and genuinely restorative.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- Mutton bone and brain : 1 head of goat
- Coriander : 2 tsp — crushed
- 3 tsp Pepper : 2 — crushed
- Ghee : ½ tsp
- Curry leaves : 20 leaves
- Onion / onion : 2 tsp — chopped
- Mustard : 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder : a pinch
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Clean and wash the brain and bones.
Step 2
In a cooker add this bone and brain, crushed coriander, crushed pepper, salt, some curry leaves and pinch of turmeric powder.
Step 3
Add 4 cups of water, stir, Put the lid on and cook till the soup for 1 cup.
Step 4

Drain it.
Step 6
Heat ghee in a pan add mustard, allow to crackle, add chopped onion and curry leaves.
Step 7
Stir till it golden colour. [don’t burn it].
Step 8
Add the soup in to it.
Step 9
Give it a good stir and serve hot.
Tip
Whole spices — cardamom, cloves, cinnamon — go in early with the oil. They need time to infuse their flavour into the fat.
