Mushroom Thoran Easy
Simple, honest, and on every Kerala lunch plate — mushroom thoran is coconut oil, grated coconut, and a handful of spices working quietly together. No fuss, just good food.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 200 g Mushroom
- 1 nos Onion big size
- 1 tbsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Red chilly powder
- 2 tbsp Coriander powder
- 1 tbsp Masala powder
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds (jeerakam)
- 4 tbsp Coconut — grated
- 3 nos Green chilly
- 2 nos Red chilly — optional
- Oil, to taste
- Mustard seeds, a few
Preparation
Step 1
Mix chopped mushroom with 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder and set aside for 3 min and then wash off. :- To check it is poisoned, if so, it will become dark in color).
Step 2
Let the mustard seeds crackle,add cumins,onions,green chillies and red chilles (if required).
Step 3
Cook it, stirring well till onions become brown.
Step 4
Add turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder, stir it well followed by a few water, so that it becomes a paste.
Step 5
Add mushroom, stir it well, and then add grated coconut and masala powder.
Step 6
Stir it and add water to cook the mushroom.
Step 7
Cover it with the lid and serve when it is cooked.
Step 8
Can be dry or gravy,as your wish.
Tip
The pan should be completely dry when you finish — no moisture should remain. That dryness is what gives thoran its characteristic texture.
