Mushroom Thoran
Simple, honest, and on every Kerala lunch plate — mushroom thoran is coconut oil, grated coconut, and a handful of spices working quietly together. No fuss, just good food.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 200 g Mushrooms — finely chopped
- 1/2 Of Coconut — grated
- 1 nos Onion — finely chopped
- 2 Springs Curry leaves
- 1/2 tsp Red chilly powder
- Turmeric powder A pinch
- Oil, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing mushroom thoran, Heat the oil in a vessel and sautT the onion till it becomes brown in colour.
Step 2
Add chilly powder, grated coconut, curry leaves, salt, turmeric powder and add mushroom.
Step 3
Do not cover with the lid. Cook the mushrooms on low heat till it becomes dry.
Step 4
Mushroom thoran is ready. Serve with chapatti or as a side dish for rice.
Tip
The pan should be completely dry when you finish — no moisture should remain. That dryness is what gives thoran its characteristic texture.
