Muringa Ela Thoran - Traditional Style
Muringa Ela Thoran is a tasty green that goes perfect with hot rice. Muringa Ela or drumstick leaves is a nutritious green that can ward off diseases and keep you healthy. Muringa Ela Thoran should be included in your meal menu and should be prepared at least once a week.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 3 cup Muringa ela
- ¼ Of Coconut
- 4 nos Green chillies
- 4 nos Garlic pods
- ½ tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
- 3 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- Rice A little
- 3 nos Dry red chillies (Kollamulaku)
- Curry leaves A, a few
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Muringa Ela Thoran, grind together grated coconut, garlic, cumin seeds, turmeric powder and green chillies in a mixer grinder into a coarse form.
Step 2
Stir everything together thoroughly together the above mixture along with the drumstick leaves and salt using your hands.
Step 3
Warm the oil in a pan or a kadai.
Step 4
Let the mustard seeds crackle and rice and cook red dry chillies and curry leaves.
Step 5
Add the leaves mixture and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 6
Put the lid on and cook for about 3 minutes.
Step 7
Remove the lid and Stir everything together thoroughly the whole contents.
Step 8
In order to avoid the leaves from getting clustered or forming lumps, give it a good stir using a spatula. Keep it on low heat, till done.
Step 9
The Muringa ela Thoran with rice or roti.
Step 10
*Muringa ela – Leaves from Drumstick tree is considered to be very good for health. Take the stems broken from the tree, wash it well in water and keep it to drain the excess water off. Now, slowly, pluck only the leaves from it as the small stems, if included in the dish, would make it bitter. So, be careful while plucking the leaves from it.
Tip
Grated coconut goes in last and cooks just long enough to warm through. Overcooking makes it chewy instead of soft.
