Mulappicha Payar Cheera Thoran
A classic Kerala thoran where spinach meets freshly grated coconut in a quick, dry stir-fry. Mustard seeds crackle in coconut oil, curry leaves crisp up, and the whole thing comes together in minutes.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Spinach
- 1 cup Mulappicha payar
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 Onion
- 2 Green chilly
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Chilli powder
- 1 tsp Salt
Preparation
Step 1
Set a kadai over medium heat and pour in the oil add mustard seeds. When it allow to crackles, add red chilly. cook for a minute.
Step 2
Add chopped onion and sauté. Add chopped and washed cheera to this and Let it cook for 2 minutes.
Step 3
Grind coconut, cumin seeds. Turmeric powder and chilli powder in a mixer to a coarse mixture.
Step 4
Add this ground mix to cheera mix and Let it cook for 3 minutes. Add mulappicha payar and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 5
Cover with a lid in low flame for 4 minutes until cheera is fully cooked.
Step 6
Now Mulappicha payar cheera thoran is ready.
Tip
Shred the vegetable as fine as you can — the thinner the cuts, the better the thoran. A sharp knife makes all the difference.
