Methi Dal Recipe
Dal is a staple food at home.so i use to make variety of dal dishes.This is good for health as it controls blood sugar.So when you have fresh methi leaves,you should make this tasty recipe.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Toordal
- 2 cup Water
- 2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Chilly powder
- 4 Green chilly
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 4 Garlic
- Methi leaves washed and — chopped
- 2 tsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard
- 1 Onion
- 2 Tomato
- 2 Red chilly
- 1 bunch Coriander leavesfor decoration
Preparation
Step 1
Get toordal with2 cups of water and salt in a pressure cooker for 10 to 15 minutes,till the dal has softened.
Step 2
When it is cooked,wait to cool down and set aside.
Step 3
Heat the oil in a nonstick pan,add the cumin seeds and allow to crackle.After that add onions and Let it cook for 2 minutes.Then add red chilly and green chilly to this. Cook till onions are translucent,add little turmeric powder to this and Let it cook for 2 minutes.
Step 4
Add tomatoes to this and cook until it has softened.
Step 5
Add methi leaves and cook over the high flame for 2 minutes.Add cooked dal to this mix and cook in sim for 4 to 6 minutes.Add salt and chilli powder to this and let it bubble for 2 minutes.
Step 6
Pour oil into a pan and heat it and add mustard,when it crackles add red chilly.
Step 7
Add this tempering to dal and let it bubble for 2 minutes.Now Methi dal is ready.
Tip
Coconut oil is the default cooking fat in Kerala kitchens. It adds a depth of flavour that other oils simply cannot match in these recipes.
