Meen Pollichathu
A spicy top rated fish delicacy available in top restaurants. The dish can be easily prepared at home. Fish pieces are cooked in a distinct spicy masala.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 kg Fish
- 1 tsp Pepper powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- 1/2 cup Coconut milk
- Tamarind, as needed
- 2 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 cup Button onions — sliced (Kunjulli)
- 12 nos Garlic pods
- Curry leaves A, a few
- 3 nos Green chillies — slit
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the exotic fish delicacy, Clean the fish and make gashes on both sides.
Step 2
Grind together pepper powder, turmeric powder and salt.
Step 3
Smear the fish with the ground masala and set aside for some time.
Step 4
Grind together coriander, chilly, turmeric and pepper powder to a fine paste.
Step 5
Cook onions, green chillies, garlic and curry leaves in oil and remove.
Step 6
Fry the fish lightly in the same oil and keep them aside.
Step 7
Add some more oil and fry mustard and cook the ground masala.
Step 8
Add fish, tamarind, the sauteed masala and the coconut milk.
Step 9
Cover the pan and allow it to cook.
Step 10
When the curry boils, add the sauteed green masala.
Step 11
Keep the pan open, lower the flame and continue cooking.
Step 12
When the fishes are coated with the gravy and the curry is almost dry, remove from fire.
Step 13
Wrap each fish in a piece of wilted plantain leaf or tin foil and tie it securely.
Step 14
Serve the dish hot. The delicious dish goes well with rice,This is one of the tastiest of fish delicacies.the dish.
Tip
A clay pot gives fish curry a distinctive taste that metal pans cannot replicate. If you have a manchatti, use it.
