Mathi Nellika Vattichathu
A muslim recipe in malabar region.It is a unique combination dish,Sardines are paired with dried goosberries,pepper and cook with other few ingredients till dry.It is best served with cooked tapioca,chapathi.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1/2 kg Sardine
- 2 Tomato
- 2 Green chilly
- 4 Dried goosberry
- 1 Clove Garlic
- 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seed
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seed
- 2 tbsp Pepper corn
- 1 tsp Red chilly powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- Curry leaves little
- 2 tbsp Oil
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Clean and wash sardine nicely.
Step 2
Grind gooseberry,garlic and cumin seed together to make a fine paste.
Step 3
In a bowl add sardine,chilly powder,turmeric powder,dried goosberry paste,salt,water and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 4
Heat the oil in a clay pot,spluttrr fenugreek seed and add tomato into it,stir for a few seconds.
Step 5
Add the sardine along with masala water.
Step 6
Add curry leaves and cook the sardine till dry.
Step 7
Mathi Nellika Vattichathu is ready to serve.
Tip
Never stir a fish curry with a spoon. Shake the pot gently to coat the pieces — stirring breaks them apart.
