Masala Upma
Masala Upma with a cup of hot coffee is a favorite breakfast dish in almost all South Indian homes. unique and with a blend of colorful veggies and a delicate tempering with mustards seeds and curry leaves.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Semolina Rava/Sooji
- 2 tsp Ghee
- 2 nos Onions — chopped
- 1/2 Of Tomato — chopped
- 1/2 Of Capsicum — chopped
- 2 nos Green chillies — slit
- 1/2 tsp Ginger — finely chopped
- Curry leaves, a few
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- Salt, to taste
- 2 cup Water
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Masala Upma, heat ghee in a pan.
Step 2
Fry semolina or rava and set aside.
Step 3
Again heat some more oil in a pan.
Step 4
Let the mustard seeds crackle and when they crackle, add curry leaves, onions, green chillies, ginger and stir fry for sometime.
Step 5
Add capsicum followed by tomato pieces and fry well.
Step 6
Remove pan from fire, add water and allow water to boil.
Step 7
Add salt and slowly stir in semolina to the boiling water. Mix very well in low flame.
Step 8
Rava Upma, a delicious breakfast dish is ready. Serve with Egg Burgi.
Tip
Good shallots are the backbone of Kerala cooking. They should be small, pink-purple, and strong-smelling. Large onions can substitute, but the flavour will be different.
