Malabari Chemmeen Curry
This is a special item i made by getting inspired by a malabari friend.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- Prawns 1 cup
- Whole shallot 8
- Shallot 10 — sliced
- Garlic 2 cloves — sliced
- Whole garlic 1 clove
- Curry leaves 2 sprig
- Ginger 1 inch piece — sliced
- Green chilly 2
- Tomato 1
- Red chilly flakes 1 tsp
- Coconut
Preparation
Step 1
Get the cleaned prawns in a bowl and set aside.
Step 2
Then heat a pan and pour 1 tsp of oil and to that add coconut,8 shallots, 1 garlic, perumjeerakam, cumin seeds and curry leaves 1 sprig.
Step 3
Give it a good stir until it becomes brawn, then off the flame and keep it to cool.
Step 4
Heat a kadai and add oil to it, when its hot add yellow mustard.
Step 5
When it change its color and it allow to crackles add the sliced shallots, sliced garlic, ginger.
Step 6
Cook it, stirring well and when its brawn add green chilly.
Step 7
Next, add tomato.
Step 8
Cook it, stirring well.
Step 9
Mean while take the coocnut mix in to a blender.
Step 10
Pour some water to it.
Step 11
Grind it well.
Step 12
Next, add red chilly flakes, turmeric powder and coriander powder to the kadai.
Step 13
Mix it well.
Step 14
Stir for 2 minutes and then add the prawns to it.
Step 15
Mix it well.
Step 16
Add 1 cup of water to it.Then close the kadai for 2 to 3 minutes.
Step 17
Next, add curry leaves and salt to it.
Step 18
Wait for 5 minutes and when the prawns get cooked.
Step 19
Add the grinded mixture to it.
Step 20
Mix it well and close the pan and keep in low flame.
Step 21
Wait for 10 minutes and then off the flame.
Step 22
Our dish is ready, serve hot.
Tip
For a thicker gravy, cook uncovered on medium heat for the last few minutes. For a thinner consistency, add a splash of warm water.
