Kondattam Moru Curry With Vellarikka | Vellarikka Kondattam Moru Curry
Kondattam Moru Curry With Vellarikka made with vellarikka (cucumber) and kondattam mulaku. Tangy, spicy, and comforting — perfect with rice.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 11/2 cup Vellarikka — cut into small cubes
- 3/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 3 nos Green chilly
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 1 nos Green chilly
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 small Piece Ginger
- 1 cup Curd
- 2 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds
- 5 nos Shallots — chopped
- 2 nos Dried red chilly
- Curry leaves, a few
- 4 nos Kondattam
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Cut the vellarikka into small cubes.
Step 2
Cook the vellarikka in enough water by adding turmeric powder, green chilly and salt to taste.
Step 3
Grind grated coconut in little water by adding cumin seeds, green chilly and turmeric powder. Grind it to make a smooth paste.
Step 4
Add cooked vellarikka and ground coconut into a pan or clay pot.
Step 5
Add little more water to get the correct consistency, do not add too much water, because we have to add beated curd finally. Bring to a gentle boil and turn off the heat.
Step 6
Add beated curd and Stir everything together thoroughly. Do not boil the curry after adding butter milk.
Step 7
Here comes the final step, Heat the oil in a tadka, let the mustard seeds crackle and add chopped shallots. When the shallots turn lightly browned, add kondattam mulaku, dried red chilly and curry leaves. Fry it for few seconds and take it off the heat.
Step 8
Pour it over the curry.
Step 9
Kondattam Moru Curry is ready. Serve along with steamed rice.
Tip
For a thicker gravy, cook uncovered on medium heat for the last few minutes. For a thinner consistency, add a splash of warm water.
