Kerala Style Muringakka Thoran
A vegetarian side dish from Kerala, God’s Own Country. During seasons, drumsticks are available in plenty and almost all houses have a drumstick tree in their backyard.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 15 nos Drumsticks Muringakka
- 1/2 cup Small onions (Kunjulli)
- 2 nos Or Onion big
- 1/2 Of Coconut — grated
- 3 nos Green chillies
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
- 4 nos Garlic cloves
- 3 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 2 nos Dry red chillies (Kollamulaku)
- Curry leaves, a few
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Kerala Style Muringakka Thoran, cut the drumstick pieces into two and using a spoon take the fleshy part from it and set aside.
Step 2
Mix together the drumstick's fleshy part, chopped green chillies, chopped small onions or onions, chopped garlic, grated coconut, powdered cumin seeds, turmeric powder and salt.
Step 3
Pour oil into a pan and heat it or a kadai.
Step 4
Let the mustard seeds crackle and cook dry red chillies and curry leaves.
Step 5
Add the kept aside mixture and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 6
Put the lid on and cook on a low flame, till done.
Step 7
When it gets cooked, remove the lid and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 8
Continue cooking in low flame till Kerala Style Muringakka Thoran is done.
Tip
Grated coconut goes in last and cooks just long enough to warm through. Overcooking makes it chewy instead of soft.
