Kerala Jackfruit Halva
Jackfruit, a fruit popular in the hilly terrains of kerala, is minced and cooked in ghee to prepare halwa.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 2 kg Ripe jackfruit Chakka pazham
- 1 kg Sugar
- 4 cup Water
- 125 g Ghee
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing kerala jackfruit halwa, first mince the jackfruit pieces in a mincer.
Step 2
Get a flat thick bottomed pan and heat sugar and water.
Step 3
Add minced jackfruit and stir continuously.
Step 4
Add ghee when the halwa thickens.
Step 5
When the mixture can be rolled into a ball, turn the contents into a greased dish. Smoothen the top surface with a spoon.
Step 6
When the jackfruit halwa has cooled down, cut into pieces and store in an airtight vessel.
Tip
When the recipe says "medium heat," it means medium. Kerala cooking is not about high-flame drama — most of the work happens at a patient, steady temperature.
