Kerala Cherupayar Curry | Green Gram Curry
A traditional Kerala curry where mixed simmers gently in a spiced coconut gravy until every piece soaks up the flavours. The curry leaves and raw coconut oil finish add that characteristic Kerala fragrance.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 2 cup Cherupayar
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
- 1 nos Green chilly
- 1/2 tsp Turmuric powder
- 2 Cloves garlic
- Salt, to taste
- Curry leaves, a few
- Shallots, a few
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing the dish, first cook cherupayar well in a pressure cooker.
Step 2
Meanwhile grind together coconut, cumin powder, turmuric powder, garlic, green chilli and salt.
Step 3
Add this mixture to the cooked cherupayar and bring to boil. Remove pan from fire. Heat oil and fry sliced shallots and curry leaves. Pour this seasoning into the prepared Cherupayar Curry.
Step 4
Serve it hot.
Tip
For a thicker gravy, cook uncovered on medium heat for the last few minutes. For a thinner consistency, add a splash of warm water.
