Kakka Ularthiyathu
Kakka/oysters is cooked and mixed with grated coconut and other ingredients to prepare kakka ularthiyathu.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 125 g Oyster washed, cleaned and drained, Kakka
- 3 nos Shallots — crushed (Kunjulli)
- 1 nos Green chillies chopped round
- Ginger a small piece — chopped
- 2 nos Garlic — crushed
- 1/2 cup Coconut — grated
- 5 nos Pepper corns — crushed
- 1/4 tsp Chilly powder
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp Garam masala
- Curry leaves, a few
- Coconut oil, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing kakka ularthiyathu, first mix kakka with shallots, green chillies, ginger, garlic, curry leaves, some water and required salt in a vessel.
Step 2
Cook in low heat until water has almost dried up.
Step 3
Add grated coconut, crushed pepper, chilly powder and cover the vessel with a lid. Simmer in low heat until the kakka pieces are done.
Step 4
Sprinke garam masala and add fresh coconut oil. Remove the vessel from fire.
Step 5
Kakka ularthiyathu, a favorite dish of kerala, is ready. Serve hot.
Tip
The final handful of curry leaves should go in right at the end, off the heat — they should crackle and crisp in the residual heat.
