Kai Koottan
Fresh fish cooked the Kerala way — with coconut, curry leaves, and a tartness that comes from kudampuli or tamarind. Coastal Kerala cooking at its simplest and best.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 3 nos Raw banana
- 2 nos Fish any type
- 1/2 cup Coconut
- Chilly powder
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- Curry leaves, to taste
- Water, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Cut the raw banana into small pieces and cook it with fish, chilly powder, turmeric powder, salt and water as needed.
Step 2
Add grinded coconut, curry leaves and mash the whole thing with a spoon.
Step 3
Cook further for 3-5 minutes.
Tip
A clay pot gives fish curry a distinctive taste that metal pans cannot replicate. If you have a manchatti, use it.
