Kadala Curry In 20 Minutes
A deeply satisfying kadala curry in 20 minutes simmered slowly with freshly ground spices and coconut. The kind of gravy that thickens as it rests and rewards patience with layered, rounded flavour.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 1 cup Kadala ground gram
- 1 nos Onion medium size
- 1 nos Tomato
- 2 cup Water
- 2 nos Red chilly
- 1 nos Garlic pods
- 1 tbsp Coconut — grated
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Red chilly powder
- 2 tsp Coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp Masala powder
- 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Soak kadala for 7-8 hours (overnight).
Step 2
Pressure cook (3-4 whistles) kadala with 2 cups of water,salt,turmeric powder,chilly powder,coriander powder,garlic pod,onion and grated coconut.
Step 3
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil and let the mustard seeds crackle and add red chillies,chopped tomato and masala powder.
Step 4
Stir till the tomato is mashed well(3-4minutes) and then add to the cooked kadala and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 5
Kadala Curry is ready!
Step 6
Serve the Kadala Curry hot!
Tip
Let the curry rest for at least 15 minutes after cooking — the flavours deepen as it sits. Reheated curry almost always tastes better than fresh.
