Jackfruit Seeds(Chakkakuru) Amarakka Thoran
Simple, honest, and on every Kerala lunch plate — jackfruit thoran is coconut oil, grated coconut, and a handful of spices working quietly together. No fuss, just good food.

- 10 nos Jackfruit seeds peeled and — sliced
- 100 g Broad beans sliced, Amarakka
- 1/2 tsp Chilly powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/4 cup Coconut — grated
- 4 Cloves Garlic — chopped
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp Split black gram parippu (Uzhunnu)
- 3 nos Dry red chillies
- 2 nos Shallots — chopped (Kunjulli)
- 3 Springs Curry leaves
- Oil, to taste
- Salt, to taste
- 1/2 cup Water
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing jackfruit seeds amarakka thoran, first cook together jackfruit seeds and broad beans adding turmeric powder, chilly powder, required salt and some water.
Step 2
Grind grated coconut, garlic, cumin seeds and curry leaves. Pour this paste to the above cooked ingredients and heat in low flame for 3 minutes with a closed lid.
Step 3
Let the mustard seeds crackle, black gram, dry red chillies, shallots and curry leaves. Add this to the cooked ingredients.
Step 4
Jackfruit seeds amarakka thoran is ready. Serve hot.
Tip
The pan should be completely dry when you finish — no moisture should remain. That dryness is what gives thoran its characteristic texture.
