Home Made Mutton Stew
Tender mutton simmered in thin coconut milk with whole spices, then finished with thick coconut milk for richness. The stew is traditionally served with appam or idiappam.
Ingredientsfor 5 servings
- Mutton : 1 k gm
- Potato : ½ cup
- Carrot : ½ cup
- Onion : 4 nos
- Garlic : 10 nos
- Ginger : 2 inch piece
- Coconut milk : 1 cup
- Green chilly : 5 or more
- Cumin seeds : 2 tsp
- Cardamom : 4 nos
- Cinnamon : 3 piece
- Clove : 4 nos
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Heat a pan add oil in it and when its hot add cardamom, clove, and cinnamon.
Step 2
Cook it, stirring well and then add onion, ginger, garlic ( if its paste it will be more tasty), green chilly.
Step 3
When it gets brown.
Step 4
Add cumin seeds and give it a good stir.
Step 5
Next, add the mutton to it.
Step 6
Give it a good stir add little water and close it to get cooked.
Step 7
When it gets cooked add salt if needed.
Step 8
Next, add carrot and potato to it.
Step 9
Give it a good stir and close it to get cooked.
Step 10
Next, add the coconut milk to it and give it a good stir.
Step 11
Be in flame for 3 more minutes and give it a good stir and off the flame.
Step 12
The dish is ready serve it with chappathi, appam, pathiri etc.
Tip
Whole spices — cardamom, cloves, cinnamon — go in early with the oil. They need time to infuse their flavour into the fat.
