Green Gram Stir Fry | Moong Dal Fry | Cherupayar Mezhukkupuratty
The everyday side dish that Kerala never tires of. Dal is shredded fine, tossed with coconut and spices, and cooked just enough to soften without losing its bite.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 1 cup Green gram(Cherupayar) Soaked overnight
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- 1 no. Onion — chopped
- 2 nos. Green chilly — chopped
- 1 no. Tomato — chopped
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tbsp Oil
Preparation
Step 1
Cook green gram by adding turmeric powder and salt to taste in enough water.
Step 2
Heat oil in a pan, let the mustard seeds crackle and add sliced onion. cook until it has softened and lightly browned.
Step 3
Add chopped tomato, green chilly and cook, stirring often, for a few minutes.
Step 4
Add cooked green gram.
Step 5
Stir everything together thoroughly, adjust the salt and take it off the heat.
Step 6
Serve it along with puttu or chappathi.
Tip
This same method works for almost any vegetable: beans, beetroot, carrot, raw banana — swap the main vegetable and keep everything else the same.
