Fish Upperi
The everyday side dish that Kerala never tires of. Fish is shredded fine, tossed with coconut and spices, and cooked just enough to soften without losing its bite.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 4 nos Sardines Matthi
- Or
- 2 nos Mackerel Ayila
- Or
- 1 Can Tuna
- 1 nos Onion medium
- 1 tsp Ginger finely cut
- 3 nos Green chillies
- Curry leaves A, a few
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 4 tbsp Coconut — grated
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1/2 tsp Salt
Preparation
Step 1
Clean the fish and remove all bones and set aside.
Step 2
Warm the oil in a pan.
Step 3
Let the mustard seeds crackle.
Step 4
Add sliced onions followed by ginger, green chillies, curry leaves and turmeric powder.
Step 5
Stir for about 5 minutes.
Step 6
Add fish, salt, coconut and cook on low fire for about 10 minutes.
Step 7
If you are using canned fish, it is easier to make this dish.
Tip
This same method works for almost any vegetable: beans, beetroot, carrot, raw banana — swap the main vegetable and keep everything else the same.
