Fish Curry With Coconut
A tasty fish curry prepared with ground coconut and other ingredients.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 1 kg King fish
- 1 cup Coconut — grated
- 10 nos Shallots (Kunjulli)
- 5 nos Green chillies
- 2 tsp Ginger roughly — chopped
- 1/2 cup Curry leaves
- 2 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Chilly powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
- 1 tsp Fenugreek seeds (Uluva)
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- Coconut oil, to taste
- 1 cup Tamarind water
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing fish curry with coconut, first clean and cut the fish. Wash, drain and set aside.
Step 2
Roughly grind shallots, ginger and green chillies. Set aside.
Step 3
Grind coconut, 1/4 cup curry leaves, coriander powder, chilly powder, turmeric powder and cumin seeds. Set aside.
Step 4
Heat the oil in mann chatti(clay pot), let the mustard seeds crackle and fenugreek seeds. Add the roughly ground shallots and remaining curry leaves.
Step 5
Fry for few minutes. Add the ground coconut mixture and cook well.
Step 6
When the oil starts to come out, add fish pieces, salt and tamarind water.
Step 7
Allow the fish to cook.
Step 8
After the fish is cooked and the gravy becomes thick consistency, take it off the heat.
Step 9
Pour 2 tsp coconut oil on top. Cover it with a lid and serve hot after 5 minutes with cooked rice.
Tip
For a thicker gravy, cook uncovered on medium heat for the last few minutes. For a thinner consistency, add a splash of warm water.
