Elissery - Brahmin Special
Elephant yam, raw banana and other ingredients are cooked with grated coconut.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1/4 kg Elephant yam Chena
- 2 nos Raw banana Nendrakka
- 1 tbsp Red chilly powder
- 1 tsp Pepper powder
- Salt, to taste
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 11/2 cup Coconut — grated
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Urad dal
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
- 4 tbsp Coconut oil
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing elissery - brahmin special, cut and wash elephant yam and raw banana and cook and boil this in cooker by adding enough water, turmeric powder, red chilly powder, pepper powder and salt.
Step 2
Grind the grated coconut(1 cup only) and jeerakam with enough water.
Step 3
Add the ground item to the 1st step item and boil for sometime.
Step 4
Fry mustard seeds and urad dal in coconut oil. Then add the remaining 1/2 cup grated coconut and fry this till the mixture turns brown.
Step 5
Add this 4th step item to the 3rd step mixture.
Step 6
Add curry leaves.
Step 7
Elissery - brahmin special recipe, is ready.
Tip
Fresh curry leaves make a genuine difference. Dried curry leaves are a poor substitute — if you cannot get fresh ones, increase the quantity and fry them longer.
