Easy Yummy Mother`s Dal
A traditional preparation from Kerala that balances flavour, texture, and aroma in the way that only home cooking can. No two households make it exactly the same, and that is the point.
Ingredientsfor 6 servings
- 11/2 cup Red gram (Thuvaraparippu)
- 21/2 cup Water
- 5 nos Green chillies — chopped
- 1/2 tsp Ginger paste
- 1/2 tsp Garlic paste
- 1 tsp Salt
- Turmeric powder A pinch
- 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
- 8 nos Curry leaves
- 1/2 cup Coriander leaves — chopped
- 1 cup Yoghurt/Curd
- 1 tsp Olive oil or Ghee
- 2 nos Tomato — sliced
Preparation
Step 1
Cook the red gram or dal in a pressure cooker, upto 3 whistles.
Step 2
After opening the lid, add ginger paste, garlic paste, green chillies, turmeric powder, tomatoes, curry leaves and cumin seeds.
Step 3
Allow it to boil.
Step 4
Add salt and yoghurt and boil again.
Step 5
Add a tsp of olive oil or ghee.
Step 6
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
Step 7
Goes well with fried fish or any other vegetable dish. :- You need not season this dal. :- If you want it`s consistency to be dilute, add more water, before adding salt and yoghurt.

Taste as you go. Recipes are guidelines — your palate is the final judge. Adjust salt, sourness, and heat to what tastes right to you.
