Easy Oats Uthappam
Lacy edges, spongy centre — appam is fermented rice batter swirled in a curved pan until it forms a bowl-shaped pancake. The slight tang from fermentation pairs perfectly with a coconut stew or egg curry.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 50 g Oats
- 3/4 cup Curd
- 1/4 tsp Asafoetida powder (Kayam)
- 2 nos Green chillies — finely chopped
- 50 g Cabbage — finely chopped
- 50 g Tomatoes — finely chopped
- 50 g Beans — finely chopped
- 25 g Cooked green peas
- 1/4 tsp Pepper powder
- Oil, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Grind the oats to a fine powder and mix with curd, kayam powder and required salt.
Step 2
Make a smooth batter with necessary water and set aside for 30 minutes.
Step 3
Get the chopped green chillies, cabbage, tomatoes, beans and green peas in a vessel. Add pepper powder, required salt and mix gently.
Step 4
Get a tawa and brush with oil. Heat the tawa and spread the oats batter in a thick proportion.
Step 5
Sprinkle the chopped veggies on top and with a ladle turn the dosa upside down.
Step 6
Fry both sides of the dosa to a golden color.
Step 7
Easy oats uthappam, an ideal dish for breakfast with all necessary nutrients is ready.
Tip
The swirling motion takes practice. Your first two appams will likely be imperfect — consider them warm-up rounds.
