Easy Idichakka Thoran
Idichakka or tender jackfruit Thoran is a stir fry cooked in a style. Idichakka Thoran tastes best with rice gruel or kanji. Idichakka Thoran is unique and interesting with chopped idichakka pieces cooked with spicy coconut mixture.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 1 nos Idichakka about a month old, Tender Jackfruit
- 1/2 Of Coconut
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
- 4 nos Green chillies
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 5 nos Garlic pods
- 4 tbsp Coconut oil
- 2 tbsp Plain rice
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 2 nos Dry red chillies (Kollamulaku)
- Salt, to taste
- Curry leaves, a few
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Idichakka Thoran, remove the skin off the idichakka and cut into small pieces.
Step 2
Cook it along with turmeric powder and salt.
Step 3
Place grated coconut, green chillies, cumin seeds, garlic and curry leaves in a mixer bowl and run it once to make it into a coarse form.
Step 4
Similarly, place the cooked idichakka pieces in the mixer bowl and run it just once to mince it again.
Step 5
Make sure that the idichakka is not overcooked as the whole thing may get mashed.
Step 6
Mix together the coconut mixture and the minced idichakka.
Step 7
Warm the oil in a pan or a kadai.
Step 8
Let the mustard seeds crackle and cook red chillies, plain rice and curry leaves.
Step 9
Lower the flame, stir in cooked idichakka mixture, Put the lid on and cook for about 2 minutes.
Step 10
Remove the lid and give it a good stir.
Step 11
Continue to cook, till done.
Step 12
Make sure Idichakka Thoran doesn't get mashed.
Tip
Grated coconut goes in last and cooks just long enough to warm through. Overcooking makes it chewy instead of soft.
