Easy Appam - A Delicious Breakfast
Lacy edges, spongy centre — appam is fermented rice batter swirled in a curved pan until it forms a bowl-shaped pancake. The slight tang from fermentation pairs perfectly with a coconut stew or egg curry.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Raw rice
- 1/2 cup Dessicated coconut
- 1/2 cup Cooked boiled rice
- 1/4 tsp Yeast
- 1 tsp Sugar — optional
Preparation
Step 1
Soak raw rice for 4-5 hours.
Step 2
Grind it along with dessicated coconut and then cooked rice yeast and sugar.
Step 3
Keep for fermentation overnight.
Step 4
After fermentation add of salt and pinch of baking soda.
Step 5
Heat appa chatti and pour a spoon full of batter and spread it by taking appa chatti in hand and cover with lid.
Step 6
After its done remove and serve hot with egg roast.
Tip
The swirling motion takes practice. Your first two appams will likely be imperfect — consider them warm-up rounds.
