Easy Appam
Lacy edges, spongy centre — appam is fermented rice batter swirled in a curved pan until it forms a bowl-shaped pancake. The slight tang from fermentation pairs perfectly with a coconut stew or egg curry.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 1 glass Raw rice Pacchari
- 1 - Coconut — grated
- 2 tbsp Cooked rice
- 3/4 - Salt
- 3 tsp Sugar
- 1/4 tsp Yeast
Preparation
Step 1
Soak the rice for 4 hours.
Step 2
Grind it with other ingredients.
Step 3
The consistency should be of that of DOSA.
Step 4
Set aside for fermenting.
Step 5
It will take 6 - 8 hrs to ferment.
Step 6
Pour mix into a pre-heated Appa chatti and turn the chatti in a cirular motion so that the appams will make perfect round shape.
Step 7
Close the lid.
Step 8
After the appam is done, transfer it into serving plate and repeat the process for other appams.
Step 9
This quantity mentioned above will make almost 10 - 12 appams.
Tip
A well-seasoned appachatti is worth the investment. The appam should release from the pan without any resistance.
