Dhalia Uppumavu
It ia a Fibre-rich broken wheat variation of the semolina upma. It is good for diabetic people.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- Dhaliya (Broken Wheat) .. 2 cups
- ½ cup Onion — chopped
- 1 Tspn Chopped Ginger
- 8 – Curry leaves
- 2 Tspns Chopped Green Chillies
- ½ cup Coconut — grated
- 1 Tspn Mustard Seeds
- Salt, to taste
- 3 – Coconut/Refined Oil
- Water, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Soak the Dhaliya for about 5 minutes.
Step 2
Heat the Oil in a frying pan and add Mustard seeds in it.
Step 3
When the Mustard seeds are bursted, add the chopped Onion, Ginger, Green Chilli and Curry leaves and stir it for 3 – 4 minutes.
Step 4
When the colour of this mix turns into golden, add water and salt and let the water boil.
Step 5
When the water boils well, add the soaked Dhaliya and stir it.
Step 6
After the Dhailya is cooked properly, add grated Coconut and stir it further and change the Uppumav to a serving plate.
Step 7
Dhaliya Uppumav is ready and it can be served with Coconut/Onion Chutney or riped Bananas for break-fast/dinner.
Tip
Coconut oil is the default cooking fat in Kerala kitchens. It adds a depth of flavour that other oils simply cannot match in these recipes.
