Delicious Fish Pickle
A tangy, spicy condiment that keeps for weeks and adds a sharp kick to any Kerala meal. Made with care and stored in a clean jar, this pickle gets better as the days pass and the flavours meld together.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Fleshy fish cleaned, with out bones
- 1 cup Vinegar
- 4 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
- 2 tbsp Pepper Powder
- 4 tbsp Ginger garlic paste chopped together
- Salt, to taste
- 4 tbsp Chilly Powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Asafoetida Powder
- 2 cup Coconut Oil
- Curry leaves, a few
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Clean the fish and remove bones.
Step 2
Get the fish in a large bowl and add ginger-garlic paste, salt, 4 tbsp vinegar, pepper powder and Stir everything together thoroughly and set aside for 30 minutes.
Step 3
Once the the fish has been marinated, Heat the oil in a pot and fry in hot oil the marinated fish pieces.
Step 4
Once it is over, into the same oil add mustard seeds and allow it to allow to crackle.
Step 5
Next, add chopped ginger and garlic and allow it to be light brown. Now slow down the flame and add chilly powder and mix it well and allow to be heated.
Step 6
Add remaining vinegar into it. Allow the vinegar to be boiled well and add salt, turmeric powder and asafoetida powder.
Step 7
Stir the mixture well and add the fried fish into it and Stir everything together thoroughly. Add curry leaves.
Step 8
Check whether salt is enough. Now the pickle is ready and store in dry bottle after cooling.
Tip
The jar must be completely dry and the spoon must be clean every time you take from it. Any moisture introduces bacteria and spoils the pickle.
