Dates Chutney Easy
Minced dates cooked with jaggery, tamarind and other ingredients. Apt chutney for biriyani.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 1/2 cup Dates — minced
- Ginger a small piece — chopped
- 3 Cloves Garlic — chopped
- 2 nos Green chillies sliced round
- Tamarind a small ball (Puli)
- 1 tbsp Gingelly oil Nallenna
- 1/4 cup Onion — finely chopped
- 11/2 tsp Chilly powder
- 1/2 tbsp Jaggery powdered, Sarkara
- Mustard seeds A pinch
- Fenugreek A pinch (Uluva)
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing dates chutney, first soak tamarind in little water and add jaggery. Sieve and collect the tamarind extract.
Step 2
Heat gingelly oil and allow to crackle mustard and fenugreek seeds.
Step 3
Add onion, ginger, garlic, green chillies and cook for a few minutes.
Step 4
Lower the flame and add chilly powder, tamarind extract and required salt.
Step 5
Finally, add minced dates and cook in low fire until done. Remove from fire and allow it to cool. Dates chutney, an apt side dish for biriyani is ready.
Step 6
When dates chutney has cooled down, store in a glass bottle and refrigerate for longer period of storage.
Tip
Fresh curry leaves make a genuine difference. Dried curry leaves are a poor substitute — if you cannot get fresh ones, increase the quantity and fry them longer.
