Crab Masala Easy
Fresh crab cooked the Kerala way — with coconut, curry leaves, and a tartness that comes from kudampuli or tamarind. Coastal Kerala cooking at its simplest and best.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 nos Crab medium
- 1 tsp Chilly powder
- 1 tbsp Coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp Pepper powder
- 1 cup Onion — chopped
- Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
- 1 tbsp Pepper — crushed
- 4 - Curry leaves
- 1 nos Lemon
- Salt, to taste
- Oil, to taste
- 1/2 cup Onion — sliced
- 1/4 cup Water
Preparation
Step 1
Marinate cooked small pieces of crab(with shell) with salt and lemon juice and keep for an hour.
Step 2
Cook chopped onion, ginger-garlic paste and curry leaves.
Step 3
Add chilly powder, coriander power, turmeric, pepper and crushed pepper and cook on medium heat till oil comes out.
Step 4
Add marinated crab and water to the sauted masala.
Step 5
Close with a lid and cook for few mins.
Step 6
Open lid and cook it on low heat till the gravy becomes thick.
Step 7
Garnish with fried onions.
Step 8
Goes well with kappa.
Tip
Seafood cooks in minutes. The single biggest mistake is overcooking — the moment fish turns opaque or prawns curl and go pink, they are done.
