Chowwari Snacks
Straightforward Kerala cooking — good ingredients treated well, spiced with confidence, and served without pretence. The kind of food that tastes like someone's kitchen, not a restaurant.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Sago seeds Chowwari
- 2 nos Green chillies
- 1/2 cup Peanuts
- 1/2 tsp Pepper powder
- 1 tsp Sugar
- Salt, to taste
- 1/2 tsp Ghee
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing chowwari sweets, soak chowwari in water for 30 minutes.
Step 2
Drain and steam Let it cook for 15 minutes. Set aside.
Step 3
Remove skin, roast and grind peanuts.
Step 4
Cook green chillies in oil. Add pepper, sugar, ghee, cooked sago seeds and peanuts.
Step 5
Stir everything together thoroughly and use as a snack in evening.
Tip
Fresh curry leaves make a genuine difference. Dried curry leaves are a poor substitute — if you cannot get fresh ones, increase the quantity and fry them longer.
