Chicken Stew
Bursting with savory goodness and rich flavors, Chicken Stew has been a culinary favorite for generations.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1/2 kg Chicken
- 3 nos Onions — finely chopped
- 1 nos Potatoes — cubed
- 4 nos Green chillies Slit open length-wise
- 5 nos Pepper Corns Roughly — crushed
- 2 tsp Garlic paste
- 2 tsp Ginger paste
- 2 cup Coconut — grated
- 2 nos Tomatoes — chopped
- 1 tsp Poppy seeds(ground) Khashakhasha
- 2 small Pieces Cinnamon (Karugapatta)
- 3 nos Cloves (Grambu)
- 3 Stems Coriander leaves
- Oil, to taste
- 1 tbsp Lemon juice
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Extract 1 cup of thick coconut milk and 2 cups of thin coconut milk from the grated coconut. Set aside.
Step 2
Set a pan over medium heat and pour in the oil.
Step 3
Add cinnamon sticks, cloves, pepper corns, onions and green chillies and stir fry, till onion turns brown.
Step 4
Add ginger and garlic pastes and stir for a little while.
Step 5
Add the chicken pieces and stir further.
Step 6
Add the thin coconut milk, chopped tomatoes, cubed potatoes, ground poppy mixture and coriander leaves along with required salt.
Step 7
Transfer the contents to a pressure cooker and Let it cook for 7 minutes till done.
Step 8
When chicken is cooked and 3/4th of water is dried up, add the thick milk of coconut, lemon juice and heat till boiling starts. Put off the flame before boiling starts.
Step 9
Relish Chicken Stew with Palappam, idiyappam etc.
Tip
Marinate for at least 30 minutes if you can — the spices penetrate deeper and the chicken stays juicier.
