Cherupayar Curry for Puttu
Cherupayar Curry is one of the simplest and tastiest of vegetarian dishes that can be cooked in a jiffy. Whole cooked green gram are generally prepared from dried beans by boiling until they are soft. Green gram broken its calls Moong dal.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 11/2 cup Cherupayar
- 2-3 cup Water
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tbsp Cocunut oil
- 8-10 nos Shallots — sliced (Kunjulli)
- Curry leaves, to taste
- Mustard seeds A pinch
- 2-3 nos Red chilly onakka mulakku
- 1 tsp Red chilly powder
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Cherupayar Curry, first wash cherupayar properly and put it in a pressure cooker followed by water and salt.
Step 2
Cook the cherupayar for 2-3 whistles.
Step 3
Take it off the heat. and set aside for some time.
Step 4
In another frying pan or kadai, heat coconut oil.
Step 5
Let the mustard seeds crackle followed by shallots, red chilly(broken in two), curry leaves and finally add chilly powder and cook for 30 seconds. (Make sure you do not burn the chilly powder).
Step 6
Finally add this seasoning onto the cooked cherupayar. Stir it well.
Step 7
Serve it hot with Chappathi or Rice or Kanji.
Tip
The oil separating from the masala is your signal that the base is properly cooked. Do not add the main ingredient before you see those pools of oil on the surface.
