Chena-Kaya Curry
A strictly pure vegetarian curry which is served to the guest with rice and other side dishes. This is traditional, Kerala side dish. Normally, it is prepared during Onam.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 250 g Chena elephant yam
- 2 Kaya Raw banana
- 1 Onion
- 1 Tomato
- 1 Green chilly
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- Curry leaves, a few
- Salt, to taste
- To Temper
- 4 Shallots
- 1/2 tsp Mustard
- 2 tbsp Oil
Preparation
Step 1
Prep all your vegetables — wash, peel, and chop them before you start cooking.
Step 2
Cook chena,raw banana,tomato,onion,green chilly,curry leaves with turmeric powder,salt and water as needed for 20 minutes.
Step 3
Add ground coconut into the curry.
Step 4
Stir everything together thoroughly,take it off the heat when it starts boil.
Step 5
Heat oil and allow to crackle mustard seed,add shallots and cook until golden brown.mix it with the curry.
Step 6
Serve the chena-Kaya Curry with rice.
Tip
For a thicker gravy, cook uncovered on medium heat for the last few minutes. For a thinner consistency, add a splash of warm water.
