Chemmeen Ada
Sweet, rich, and deeply satisfying — this is the snack that shows up at every Kerala celebration, temple festival, and Onam Sadya. Made with jaggery, coconut, and patience.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- Rice flour 1 cup
- Boiling water 2 cup or more to make the dough
- Salt, to taste
- Prawns 1/4 kg
- Onion 1
- Ginger 1 inch piece
- Garlic 3 cloves
- Chilly powder 1 or 2 tsp
- Turmeric powder 1 tsp
- Coriander powder 1 tsp
- Garam masala 1 tsp
- Coriander leaves 1 spring
- Salt, to taste
- Curry leaves half spring
Preparation
Step 1
Make masala of prawns using all the ingredients except the rice flour a.
Step 2
Make a dough using rice flour salt and water.
Step 3
Make small balls from the dough.
Step 4
Fill the masala in to the balls.
Step 5
Continue the same with the remaining portion and make in to shapes of your wish.
Step 6
Make in to shapes of your wish.
Step 7
And put some coconut above the ada.
Step 8
Then using a pressure cooker or idli maker steam the ada's.
Step 9
It will take about 15 to 20 mint to get cooked and our ada is ready.
Tip
The binding point is everything — cook the mixture just until it holds shape when pressed. Overcooked, it turns hard; undercooked, it crumbles.
