Chembin Thal Thoran
Chembin Thal Thoran or Colacasia Stem Stir Fry is a styled dish very tasty too. Chembin Thal Thoran goes well with hot rice and is apt for noon day meals.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 5 nos Chembin thal Colacasia stem
- 1/2 Of Coconut
- 3 nos Green chillies
- 6 nos Small onions (Kunjulli)
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 3 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- Salt, to taste
- Curry leaves, a few
- 2 nos Dry red chillies (Kollamulaku)
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Chembin Thal Thoran, first cut the stem lengthwise and peel off its outer skin.
Step 2
Clean it well and chop it finely.
Step 3
Add a little salt to it and using your hands, mix it well.
Step 4
Squeeze well enough and discard the thick serum which oozes out while doing so.
Step 5
Place the grated coconut, green chillies, small onions, turmeric powder and curry leaves in a mixer bowl and run it once to make a coarse form.
Step 6
Mix together the finely chopped thal and the coconut mixture.
Step 7
Add salt and Stir everything together thoroughly again.
Step 8
Pour oil into a pan and heat it or a kadai.
Step 9
Let the mustard seeds crackle and cook dry red chillies and curry leaves.
Step 10
Add the mixture into the pan and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 11
Put the lid on and cook for a few mins.
Step 12
Lower the flame and Give it a stir now and then.
Step 13
When it gets cooked, remove the lid and continue cooking, till done.
Step 14
Chembin Thal Thoran, a nutrition rich side dish is ready.
Tip
Grated coconut goes in last and cooks just long enough to warm through. Overcooking makes it chewy instead of soft.
