Cheera (Spinach) Upperi
Simple, honest, and on every Kerala lunch plate — spinach thoran is coconut oil, grated coconut, and a handful of spices working quietly together. No fuss, just good food.
Ingredientsfor 2 servings
- 250 g Spinach (Cheera)
- 1/2 cup Coconut
- 1/2 tsp Chilly powder
- Salt, to taste
- 1½ tbsp Oil
Preparation
Step 1
Heat the oil in a vessel.
Step 2
Add cheera, coconut, chilly powder and salt.
Step 3
Cook well for 10 minutes on low heat.
Tip
The pan should be completely dry when you finish — no moisture should remain. That dryness is what gives thoran its characteristic texture.
