Cheera (Spinach) Thoran - Delicious
Simple, honest, and on every Kerala lunch plate — spinach thoran is coconut oil, grated coconut, and a handful of spices working quietly together. No fuss, just good food.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 2 Lbs chopped, Spinach (Cheera)
- 4 tbsp Coconut — grated
- 4 nos Green chillies
- 1/2 piece Onion finely chopped into very small pieces
- 1/2 tsp Mustard
- Oil, to taste
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Salt
Preparation
Step 1
Heat the oil in a frying pan and put mustard seed and allow to spullter.
Step 2
Add spinach, chopped onions, grated coconut,green chillies, salt and turmeric powder.
Step 3
Mix it well and keep it covered.
Step 4
Cook on medium heat for about 15 minutes.
Step 5
Cheera (Spinach) Thoran is ready! :- eating Cheera (Spinach) Thoran! :- Serve Cheera (Spinach) Thoran in hot with rice!
Tip
The pan should be completely dry when you finish — no moisture should remain. That dryness is what gives thoran its characteristic texture.
