Cheera Parippu Curry Or Dal Paalak
Cheera Paalak Curry or Dal Paalak is an awesome combination relished in India, which is prepared by simmering ground coconut paste in the dish. Cheera Paalak Curry or Dal Paalak is a nutritious side dish that goes best with roti, chapatti and even rice.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 4 cup Spinach(chopped) Paalak (Cheera)
- 1/2 cup Sambar Parippu or Toor dal
- 1/2 cup Coconut — grated
- 3 - small Onions (Kunjulli)
- 2 pinch Cumin seeds (Jeerakam)
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp Chilly powder
- Salt, to taste
- 1 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 - Dry red chillies (Kollamulaku)
- Curry leaves A, a few
Preparation
Step 1
For preparing Cheera Parippu Curry or Dal Paalak, first cook dal with turmeric powder, chilly powder, a little water and salt in a pressure cooker.
Step 2
Add chopped paalak or cheera and cook for 1 - 2 minutes.
Step 3
Blend together coconut, cumin seeds and small onions by adding little water until you get a thick solution.
Step 4
Pour this into the paalak and dal mixture.
Step 5
Remove from fire when it starts boiling.
Step 6
Do not boil too much.
Step 7
Pour oil into a pan and heat it or a kadai.
Step 8
Let the mustard seeds crackle and cook dry red chillies and curry leaves.
Step 9
Add this seasoning into the Cheera Paalak Curry or Dal Paalak.
Tip
Coconut oil and curry leaves at the very end, off the heat, give the curry its characteristic Kerala aroma. Never skip this final step.
