Channa Masala - Perfect Side Dish
Straightforward Kerala cooking — good ingredients treated well, spiced with confidence, and served without pretence. The kind of food that tastes like someone's kitchen, not a restaurant.
Ingredientsfor 3 servings
- 250 g Channa — soaked
- 5 nos Onions medium
- 3 nos Tomato medium
- 1/2 tsp Ginger — chopped
- 1 tsp Garlic — chopped
- 4 nos Green chillies slit, big
- Curry leaves, to taste
- 11/2 tsp Chilly powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 2 - Cloves (Grambu)
- 1 tsp Garam masala
- Salt, to taste
- Oil, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Warm coconut oil in pressure cooker.
Step 2
Add cloves and cinnamon.
Step 3
Add chopped ginger, garlic, curry leaves and green chillies.
Step 4
Add chopped onions and cook well.
Step 5
Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder and garam masala and cook well.
Step 6
Finally, add the soaked channa and Stir everything together thoroughly.
Step 7
Season with salt to your taste.
Step 8
Add the required amount of water and cook it in cooker.
Step 9
You can also add coconut milk after the channa is well cooked, if it is too spicy.
