Chana Masala With Coconut Milk | Kadala Thengapal Curry
Chana Masala with Coconut Milk is a delightful and flavorsome dish that brings together the richness of chickpeas and the lusciousness of coconut milk.
Ingredientsfor 4 servings
- 1 cup Chick pea Kadala
- 2 nos Onions — sliced
- 2 nos Green chillies Slit open length wise
- 1 nos Tomato — chopped
- 1 Stem Curry leaves
- 2 Stems Coriander leaves
- 1/4 tsp Garam masala powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Meat masala powder
- 1/2 tsp Chilly powder
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1/4 tsp Black Pepper Powder
- 1 cup Coconut milk
- Ginger A small piece — crushed
- 4 nos Garlic cloves — crushed
- Oil, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
Keep chick pea or kadala immersed in water, till soft.
Step 2
Pressure cook chana with enough water, turmeric powder and salt. Keep cooked chana aside.
Step 3
Pour oil into a pan and heat it.
Step 4
Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and stir. When they start to allow to crackle, add finely chopped onions, green chillies, curry leaves and fry, till the onions turn slightly brown.
Step 5
Add chopped tomato and give it a good stir, till tomato blends.
Step 6
Add crushed garlic and ginger pieces and give it a good stir.
Step 7
Add coriander powder, chilly powder, meat masala and give it a good stir, till the aroma of masala comes out.
Step 8
Add enough water and cooked chana, Stir and cook till water starts boiling. You can crush some chickpeas with the back of your spoon to improve the texture of the dish.
Step 9
Add coconut milk and give it a good stir in medium flame.
Step 10
Add pepper powder and garam masala. Do not boil the curry.
Step 11
Take it off the heat. before boiling starts.
Step 12
Serve kadala curry hot with naan, rotis, chappathis or even bread.
Step 13
Best combination of kadala curry is with puttu.
